Tutoring works best when it's built around how a specific student thinks, not a one-size-fits-all script.
Every student I've worked with — in the classroom, on the track, or in the weight room — learns differently, and gets stuck for different reasons. My job isn't to push through that with more worksheets. It's to figure out where the actual gap is, and close it in a way that makes sense to that specific kid.
I lean heavily on the same principles I use as a special education teacher and coach: break big, overwhelming problems into small, doable steps. Build confidence early so a student is willing to try the hard part. And stay patient when something takes longer to click than the pace of a normal classroom allows.
Send a text, call, or email with your student's grade level and what they're working through.
A short conversation to figure out which focus area fits best and what a session should focus on.
We set a regular schedule that works around school, practice, and everything else. Each session opens with a quick check-in, moves into focused work, and ends with a clear next step.
